A Dying World Keeps Smiling

"Exquisite"

date: August 6, 2009

You did the shift between emotions very well. Sad, then somewhat upbeat and happy, then wary but prepared. In this song, I saw a grizzled cop who cracked his case, but failed to fulfill a promise he made to the victim's family. His sense of failure which in turn brings about sadness is banished when he comes home to his loving family. Then comes the next morning: he gets ready for work, puts on his badge and straps on his gun, and walks back for another day's work.

Lilium- Redone by Lady Arsenic

"Amazing voice!"

date: July 22, 2008

Sorry if this comes across a bit corny, but you sound like a bona fide angel. I mean, holy SHIT!!! Hearing you sing that song actually made me cry. You did a fantastic job on the cover, and yes, the mic did kinda detract from it a bit, but you more than made up for it. Now, I put an 8 on here because of the piano. It came out too harsh. Try making it lighter and loftier. Again, I must offer you praise for your singing. There is not enough room on this page to describe how amazing your voice is. Please keep singing!

Unattainable Freedom

"very good! but it needs work"

date: July 13, 2008

I agree with djstormx. the bass did come out a bit loud. Try an upright bass instead of an electric one, or perhaps a cello. A good story to the song your wrote, and the song itself is very good. 9/10

July 14, 2008

Author's Response:

My speakers are simply horrid. I didn't notice how loud the bass was until I listened on another computer! xD

I don't think an upright or cello would fit the mood I was trying to convey, though. A cello would sound too "soft". I really wanted a rhythmically driving bass. I'll have to try it out the cello and see how it sounds. Thanks for the suggestion and review!

*Greensleeves* (heavy metal)

"Good!"

date: July 13, 2008

A surperb remix of this classic song! It sounded more like heavy techno than metal, however. On that note, I would REALLY like to hear an actual heavy metal version of this song. You know with the double bass drum, the fast guitar and bass. All that jazz.

A bittersweet memory

"Hmm..."

date: July 13, 2008

I didn't quite like the sound effect you put in with the piano. Reverb or echo, was it? Either way it didn't sound too good. A good piece, regardless. Try doing it without any fx and perhaps a cello and a viola

Author's Response:

I wrote this years ago, long before I knew anything about mastering. It was only a midi, so I had a friend turn it into an mp3. It came out very muffled as you can tell. Perhaps I'll get around to editing it and adding some strings.

Thank you again for the reviews! :D

"Almost perfect!"

You shouldn't sell yourself short. A true artist recognises the mistakes within his or her work, and rolls with them. Sometimes what you may interpret as a mistake someone else will interpret as a work of art. I for one think it is a beautiful piece. There were a few iffy notes that made me cringe a bit, but I quickly forgot them in the simple beauty of this song. The song does have a sad feeling to it, but only in the way that one may think of friends or family who have passed and are warmed in the heart at their memory. Please keep making music good sir.

July 14, 2008

Author's Response:

I know exactly what "cringe" notes you are referring to. I'm going to see if I can edit them out later today. I've had multiple people point out the same spot to me. In any case, thank you for the advise. I have a bad habit of selling myself short, which I shall work on breaking. It is great to hear that you enjoyed the song! Thank you for the wonderful review.

"Good, but not the best thing since sliced bread"

I wholeheartedly agree with Madferit. The distorted electric guitar didn't sit well with the song. I would suggest downplaying the guitar a bit, put on a Wah-Wah effect for it, and then plug in some gentle strings at around :20. Also, that one instrument that comes in at around :10, and a lower version of it later in the song: what is it? I've heard it before but I cant place a name. The reason I mention this is because I believe you should put emphasize on them, because I liked em in the song. It gave it a bluesy feel, which is just perfect. Your voice is good, but I will respectfully advise you to keep practicing. A good cover, but (and I say this with no hostility or disrespect whatsoever), it needs work.

[ lovesick ambulance ]

"Very good!"

date: July 5, 2008

The lyrics were very touching, and the ambulance in the backround was a very good addition. The only thing that I didn't like was your voice. Not your singing, it was very good, but the way it sounded kind of threw me off. Were you singing through a voice filter or something? If so I would recommend not using one and singing naturally, and perhaps just an octave lower. A fantastic song, regardless. I hope to see more

July 6, 2008

Author's Response:

there's a doubl;e layer of vocals one with reverb one with high end slight distortion , i do normally sing without any fx (except reverb) but i wanted to try something different. and the comment you made about an octave lower, i actually made this song with the capo on the wrong fret so it was supposed to be a bit lower, but hey, gotta try these things:)
